NKY Fire Families started out as a group called NKY Fire Wives. We had our first Meet and Greet in July 2014 and discussed how we could work together to form a community of Fire Wives to provide eachother support. Each of us knows that our significant other is away for long periods of time (and shift day always seems to fall on the most important days of the year), so by forming our own "circle of sisters" we could have someone to talk to and confide in. Not everyone understands what it is like to live with a firefighter and have a relationship with one - this is why we need each other. Someone who knows exactly what you are going through (because trust me, someone has been there AND done that).

We decided to change the name to NKY Fire Families in September 2014, because we realized that maybe we aren't the only ones who could relate to our situations. We are now inviting: Wives, Girlfriends, Fiance's, Mothers, Daughters, Sisters (and anyone else I may have missed) to join our group and become a part of a much larger circle!
